MRP Inflation Before Sale
2-3 weeks before BBD or GIF, sellers quietly increase the MRP from ₹1,200 to ₹4,999. When the sale starts, they list it at ₹999 with "80% OFF" — but the actual selling price was ₹899 last month. You're paying more, not less.
"Up To" Discount Trick
"Up to 80% OFF" means only 1-2 products have 80% off. The rest have 10-20% off. The banner grabs your attention with the maximum, but 95% of products in that category have much smaller real discounts.
Countdown Pressure Deals
Lightning Deal timers create fake urgency. "Only 2 left!" and countdown clocks pressure you into buying without checking if the price was the same yesterday. Many "Lightning Deals" are just regular prices with a timer slapped on.

MRP suddenly increased 2-3 weeks before sale
Check the price graph. If MRP jumped up in the last 30 days before BBD/GIF while the product wasn't discontinued or restocked, it's a deliberate inflation. The "discount" is calculated on a fake MRP — the real saving is zero or near-zero.
Discount percentage looks "too good to be true"
90% OFF on electronics? 85% OFF on a branded product? If the discount seems unbelievable, check the 90-day average price. Often the "original price" is inflated and the "sale price" is just the normal selling price repackaged with a bigger percentage.
Current "sale price" is higher than last month's average
The most telling sign. If today's "70% OFF" price is actually ₹50-₹200 MORE than what the product sold for last month without any sale, it's 100% a fake discount. Only a price history tool can reveal this.
